Stephanie Visser’s art delves into the unseen, inviting viewers to explore the delicate balance between the tangible world and the intangible realms of emotion and memory. With a creative philosophy inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s words, “Behind all seen things lies something vaster; everything is but a path, a portal or a window opening on something other than itself,” Visser’s work seeks to capture what exists beyond the obvious. Her process is rooted in layering acrylic mixed media, where translucent washes, rich hues, and intricate textures construct a visual language that speaks to the depths of human experience. For Visser, creativity is intertwined with daily life, a continuous thread connecting her art to her environment and emotions. Her pieces are not mere reflections of the external world; they are expressions of the unseen, brought to life through her unique approach and a deeply personal connection to her subjects.

Here is the artist’s interview.
What is your creative process like?
Interesting question because I do have work flow processes but the creative process is a living breathing thing and is part of every breath I take. I cannot separate my creative process from my life because they are so completely intertwined.
Do any personal experiences shape your work?
Yes,…absolutely, but I would have to say ALL of my personal experiences take part in every piece. Sometimes it’s just the sunshine out my window or the sound of a mourning dove in the garden, but it will reach into my work even then.
What challenges do you face as an artist?
Time….I feel the impulse to create all the time, but carving out time and place to begin is difficult since one has to overcome all the other daily life demands and manage the resistance to just beginning when it is going to require so much from me.
What do you want people to feel when they see your art?
Themselves….my work comes out of my living breathing experience of being human…I can only hope people relate to the feelings expressed in my work and recognize our sameness while the story of our lives is different, …all of us experience life and our feelings very much in the same way…although not at the same time or age.
