In China the social networking scene is completely the other, west. First of all, the social media in China is controlled, that is, it means that the content and comments sections are much lighter. It is then banned on US websites, which means that access to Instagram, Facebook, X and Youtube is difficult, and therefore alternative platforms. This event means research as part of this research, such as the world’s most museum and art fairs in Instagram, Facebook, X and Tiktok, often leaves the Chinese-shaped gap in the discoveries.
In China’s influence culture in China, says Philip Tin, Director of the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art In Beijing, adding as other parts of the world’s players have come beyond selfie-making to be much creative content creators. “We follow these influences and invite them to special openings for the nights for our important shows. We try to give what they need to do interesting content,” he noted.
Despite this similarity, they rarely make Chinese and western social media scenes, but in January the US ban banned (lasted less than 24 hours) temporarily. The US government closed Tikto for national security, seeing the direct impact on the Chinese government. “It is an algorithm that controls a tremendous percentage of the population, and these things are not so difficult to play,” says the tin. Although no need to legend to censorship, the steady care of the Chinese social networking network is that the platforms are more neutral and stable. “Chinese applications cannot run a personal or private agenda in the ways we have seen from some Americans,” has added to the tin.
Ironically, millions of American users escaped to another Chinese platform, Tiktok-Eskque Rednote (known as Xiaohongshu, China, China, China). “When the refugees of Tiktok joined Rednote, and users in China reported to bandwagon and welcoming messages,” he laughs at the tin. Said that the Rednote Museum has become the most effective “conversion” platform. “The art ecosystem around Rednote is really intense right now.”
But what is it? It has about 350 million Rednote per month (Instagram is two billion), most are in China and shares many similarities with Tiktok (called the Chinese language version). They both have “killer algorithm”, Tinari says. “Rednote values Virality very quickly and sends you what you are entering and the same thing and much more related things.” It does not push high tracking accounts, as Instagram makes it mainly, but shares the content of the niche content that certain users would like. “I think the whole atmosphere of Rednote is somewhat healthy and aspirational,” says Tinari, promoting hobbies on the aplibra, self-improvement and niche subjects (as interest in art and culture).
The main difference between the two platforms is that Tikto presents the short video content, Rednote presents the caption of the images and auxiliary. In this sense, some have described it as a cross between Instagram and Tikto. “I think Rednote is a sweet place,” says the tin. “They are inherently external and its characteristics, and it’s really good to find information only.” Most of the American Americans of American American Americans re-entered the US, but in the countries of April 5th, Tikto took the final decision about fate, many creative content has maintained their live accounts, just in case.
