Garda Alexander, a German artist now based in Switzerland, is known for her profound connection to nature and humanity, which permeates every aspect of her diverse artistic practice. With a background in human medicine, Alexander blends scientific precision with artistic expression, creating works that explore color, light, and form in ways that invite viewers to reflect on deeper meanings. Her paintings, sculptures, and land art projects draw from her childhood experiences in nature, where she found solace, inspiration, and healing. Alexander’s art not only invites reflection but also evokes emotions that encourage self-discovery and resilience.

Here is the artist’s interview.
What is your creative process like?
My creative process is mostly from inside out. An inspiration of a thought or an inner impuls, often connected to a theme. My themes are concentrated on color light and form. You can name it «perception fields» in painting or sculpture and the last years alo in form of landart projects in nature.
Do any personal experiences shape your work?
Yes, I would say so. The moment I asked myself, why I make the art the way I do it ? I got the answers: in my childhoof my recreation space or zones to breathe have been nature. There I felt safe, happy and inspired. Being in nature gave me the strength transform pain and grief. Very early in my life I had to confront loss of loved ones. To accept and transform this pain into love, happiness, lightness, confiance and into a full YES for life was my challenge. Nature gave me the strength, there I was able to build up my resilience and open up for the beauty, the colors, the light nature provides. In the last years I realized even landart projects where one can be, pause, reflect and breathe.
My painting are fileds of colors, light and forms where one can dive in, get inspired or open a space for reflection. My sculptures are connected to bodily forms, as bones or the brain, to remind oneself of the power within us.
What challenges do you face as an artist?
Existential challenge; enough sells to go on with the work; acceptance of doors we open to the viewers, critics. The more one is connected to the heart, to self confidence and self-worth, self respect and acceptance, so easier to cronfont challenges.
What do you want people to feel when they see your art?
Inspiration, open a space for self reflection; in the end I want to feel them well, happy, inspired and safe.
