Lidia Paladino: Crafting Worlds Beyond Reality

Lidia Paladino, an Argentine artist celebrated for her engraving and drawing, has carved a distinctive path through her dedication to textile drawing and innovative engraving techniques. Her journey began with a deep exploration of textile drawing before she embraced engraving, a move that would lead to numerous accolades, including the First Municipal Prize for Engraving in 2003. Paladino’s work often gravitates towards themes of otherworldliness and the inapprehensible, inviting viewers to step into complex, shadowed realms. Her piece, “From the series Other Worlds: Inapprehensible,” a diptych of two etching matrices created in 2000, demonstrates her ability to convey beauty and strength within chaos. Paladino’s process is driven by discipline, intuition, and a deep connection to nature. Her art transcends the tangible, inviting the viewer to grapple with what cannot be fully grasped or explained.

    Here is the artist’s interview.

1 – What is your creative process like?
Thinking about creating my work requires a great deal of attention and tension at the same time. It takes great discipline when undertaking a creative task. A visual artist senses – anticipates – observes – intuits . analyzes when connected to themselves.

2 – Does any personal experience influence your work?
Nature was and is the trigger. Something brewed within me. The need to understand complex signs. In this process, an internal dialogue takes place. The world disappears when I embrace that moment of creativity. Thoughts, attitudes, and a strong commitment to doing.

3 – What challenges do you face as an artist?
It’s about making the decision when it comes to doing things. Being honest with my thoughts. It’s about effort and dedication. The rest is decided by the Universe; the mystery that encompasses us all.

4 – What do you want people to feel when they see your art?
When I started a piece, I didn’t always think about the people. I felt strongly, and above all, I had to have confidence in my task. I wasn’t easy. It makes me happy when the viewer delves into the work and expresses their emotion. I was worth it.

Lidia Paladino’s art thrives on the tension between discipline and intuition. Her work invites viewers to connect deeply with her crafted worlds, discovering emotions and meanings within the darkness and complexity. With each piece, Paladino continues her dialogue with the unknown, offering glimpses of beauty within the mystery.
