Kimberly McGuiness doesn’t just create art—she crafts entire worlds filled with movement, emotion, and narrative. Her work is an intricate tapestry of mythology, nature, and the whimsical magic of the circus, all seamlessly interwoven to draw viewers into a realm of beauty and discovery. Horses charge across her canvases, peacocks unfurl their shimmering feathers, and landscapes pulse with life, each element carefully chosen to evoke a sense of wonder.

For Kimberly, art is more than just a visual experience—it’s a deeply immersive journey, one that begins with intuition and personal connection. Her creative process is fueled by imagination, memories, and the natural world, allowing her to transform fleeting moments into something timeless. In this interview, she shares insight into how her experiences shape her work, the challenges of balancing creativity with practicality, and the emotions she hopes to stir in those who encounter her art.

    Here is the artist’s interview.

What is your creative process like?

Kimberly: My creative processes are deeply immersive and intuitive. I often start with inspiration from my imagination, mythology, nature, or cultural elements that resonate with me. I love to sketch and jot down ideas in my journals, letting them evolve organically. For me, it’s about capturing the essence of a story or emotion and translating it into visual art that speaks directly to the viewer.

Do any personal experiences shape your work?

Kimberly: Absolutely. My work is deeply rooted in my experiences, especially those moments in nature or the personal connections I’ve had with animals and places that feel magical to me. Whether it’s the peacefulness I feel walking through a forest, the awe I get from the beauty of a waterfall, or the stories that come to life when I take the time to see and listen to mother nature’s artistry. These experiences shape the worlds I create. I also embed pieces of my soul in every artwork, drawing from the moments when I felt a deep sense of wonder, vulnerability, or love. It’s like each piece holds a reflection of my own soul’s journey, inviting others to connect with something familiar yet fantastical.

What challenges do you face as an artist?

Kimberly: As an artist, one of the challenges I encounter is balancing creativity with practicality. Finding the time and resources to bring intricate visions to life can be demanding. Additionally, staying true to my artistic voice while being an administrator requires constant navigation. However, these challenges also fuel my growth and drive me to innovate.

What do you want people to feel when they see your art?

Kimberly: When people see my art, I want them to feel a sense of wonder and discovery. Something that draws them to step out of their world, if just for a moment into another. I aim to evoke emotions like joy, curiosity, and a touch of magic. Whether it’s through vibrant colors, intricate details, or the stories woven into each piece, I hope to create an experience where viewers can lose themselves and find a moment of connection with the artwork.

Kimberly McGuiness invites viewers into a world where reality and fantasy intertwine, creating a space for reflection, joy, and wonder. Her art is a testament to the power of storytelling, capturing moments that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant. Whether through the graceful movement of animals or the enchanting elements of mythology, her work encourages a pause—an opportunity to step into a realm of beauty and imagination. Through each piece, she shares a glimpse of her soul, offering a journey that is as meaningful as it is mesmerizing.
