The artist of Rogério Ribeiro was quite unknown, but some of the biggest names in the employer established in a way to collect some of the greatest names in modern and contemporary art, when opening the Macam, includes 600 pieces collections.
“It has always been in my opinion, until the art collection should not be used to decorate the house or hide in a warehouse,” said Martin. “The ultimate goal is to display the community service and enjoyment.”
Macam Palácio Condes is Ribeira Grande, XVIII. The Century Palace was built for Nisa Marquis in Western Lisbon and then took a school before it was empty for several years. These add-ons will make the project financially sustainable, Martin says.
The hotel will also display works of collection in its rooms and in public spaces. Angela Bulloch and José Pedro Croft’s new artists in Portugal have commissioned for external terraces, and is aimed at the third work of the Spanish artist Carlos Aires, and is located in a former chapel organized by performances and other events.
The project has spent almost 20 years to bring fruit, along the way. Martin says that he originally built his museum from scratch to build a 90-year lease of the Public Land of the Tejo River. Ricardo Bofill architect had to design postmodern Cataloni. But the concession Martins was invalidated for those who said they are political reasons. “As a result, I decided to get my own property to ensure independence. In 2007, I bought Palácio Dos Condes in Ribeira Grande, where I would fix my museum.”
2008 financial accidents, pandemic and Ukrainian war later brought more delays.
Martin studied Mechanical Engineering in Lisbon and the cement and mining industries after he went to Brazil in the late 1970s. He returned to Portugal and created a property development company, Grupo Fibeira.

According to Portuguese contingent, Martin stated that they are modernist painters Eduardo Viana and Souka-Cardoso, and among international artists, it highlights the work of Albert Oehlen’s contemporary artist. “I am drawn to modern and contemporary art because it resumes in the deeper level,” says Martin. “While classical work inspires contemplation, they don’t light the same excitement.”
Macam will only be displayed works from Martins farms, but will also show other private collections. “The collection will become a platform that will be collected, expanding access to the works of art or limited to private circles,” says Martin. The new supplement of the historic building has been created for this temporary exhibition space, covered with tiles covered by the Portuguese Costa of Maria Ana Vasco.
Opening Macam is an important growth in the Lisbon art scene. The museum dedicated to the work of contemporary artist Julião, last year, was designed by the Museum last year and renewed the Centro de Moderna Gulbenki (CAM) after large renovations.
Cam’s director, Benjamin Weil, is the latest addition to the Lisbon art scene. “News of Macam’s opening are great,” he said. The host sees the intention to play other collections especially important, “contributes to the growth of a large art ecosystem in Lisbon.”
